Professor in Materials Engineering Program, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dalhousie University.
Dr. Zoheir Farhat earned his PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada, in 1996 for the fabrication and tribological behaviour of nano-laminated composite coatings. Since receiving his PhD, Dr. Farhat has held many positions in academia, industry and government research laboratories. In 2005, he joined Dalhousie University and was later appointed Chair of the Materials Engineering Program in 2007.
Dr. Farhat is the founder and Director of the Advanced Tribology Laboratory (ATL) and is a member of the Institute of Research in Materials (IRM) at Dalhousie University. To-date, his lifetime research has resulted in over 140 journal papers and conference contributions, and over 40 technical reports. With over 25 years of experience in the field of degradation and micro-mechanical characterization of advanced materials and coatings, Dr. Farhat's work has been published in some of the most prestigious international journals. He has attracted over $10M in research funding and trained over 60 graduate students (MASc, PhD), postdocs, senior undergrad students and research engineers.
Dr. Farhat has organized and chaired Corrosion and Wear of Materials symposia and he has established many national and international collaborations with industry and academia. Dr. Farhat is an active member of many professional societies and a former member of the board of review and key reader in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, TMS.
